I love coffee, but I am by no means a coffee connoisseur. I drink my coffee from my Keurig every morning, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a nice pour-over or latte when the mood hits. And when it does, while I love me some sugar-filled concoctions from Starbucks, I like to keep it local – especially if I’m going to sit and do some work or have a treat with my caffeine.
Rosco’s Coffee House is located between downtown and Old Colorado City – making it the perfect place to stop on my way to work for a mid-week treat (or three).
Rosco is the owner’s donkey (hence the ass joke in the title. I know, I’m clever), and the namesake for the coffee shop. And despite being named for an ass, the real ass is you, if you don’t stop by this place, stat. They have pastries, grab-and-go breakfast items, coffee, chai, and the most amazing matcha lemonade.
I tried everything from the dirty chai and a maple latte, to their yummy breakfast sandwiches. While I loved my lattes, the Matcha Lemonade was truly the standout item I tasted, especially as it starts to heat up outside. It was refreshing and perfect for patio sitting.
I also grabbed some sweet pastries, a breakfast burrito and the highly recommended biscuit sandwich. I understand why the barista kept telling me to try the biscuit sandwich. SO GOOD. The biscuit was slightly sweet and so soft, and the cheese was perfectly melty. The breakfast burrito was good, but really didn’t compare to the amazing biscuit sandwich. It’s a must. While I didn’t have a chance to taste the quiche or all of the pastries, if they’re as good as the other food I did taste, I think you’re set.
There are plenty of outside tables if you want to sit in the sun, or tables inside if you need to get work done. The service is quick so you can always just take it to go as well, which is perfect if you’re getting food and coffee to cure a hangover or head into the office.
Rosco’s is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
