School is in session at The Principal’s Office

May 17, 2016

The Principal’s Office, located inside Ivywild School, has always had stellar bartenders and tasty cocktails, but the food menu was usually a bit hit or miss.

Or at least it used to be.

I stopped by for their all night Monday happy hour, and of course it turned into a happy four hours because…

PO has debuted a new food menu that will make you beg for detention. The new food offerings include a mix of salads, sandwiches and “shareables.” There is even a portion of the menu dedicated to grilled cheese sandwiches. ONE HAS BRUSSEL SPROUTS ON IT. The revamp puts some fun spins on appetizers as well, with Duck Bacon Wontons and Crispy Curry Tofu Bites. I’m not about the tofu life, but if I had to eat it, I’d definitely want to dip it in the curry mayo from PO (it’s amazing).

Street Tacos with Pork

The bartender Maggie made me a few really phenomenal cocktails, but my favorite is always a French 75 with Lee Spirits dry gin.

The chips were good – they’re chips – but the curry mayo that came along with them was much tastier than it sounded. The street tacos were super filling and definitely hit the spot, but the duck bacon wontons were absolutely my favorite. I took a picture of the inside, but it doesn’t look as good as it tastes so I decided against posting it. But definitely worth the two hours of cardio you’ll need to do afterward. They also were huge. Bigger isn’t always better, but if they could make one of these wontons the size of my face, I’d be cool with it.

I did taste the chicken and brussel sprout bites too but don’t have a photo because when there’s food in front of me, my priority is usually eating it. The brussel sprouts were crispy and the chicken was good. I’d order it again.

PO has a great patio so if you’re looking for a good happy hour spot, get my new friend Maggie to make you a drink and order some of the duck bacon wontons.
