Not sure what to do this weekend? Springs Native has compiled a list of events at local bars and restaurants that are free to attend and should be entertaining and tasty. Whether it’s a cook-off or a holiday party, there’s something different for everyone. Just be ready to eat, drink and celebrate!
The Cupcake Doctor has a cure for your sweet tooth
Some people say the cupcake fad is over, but stores like The Cupcake Doctor and it’s mobile service, The Springs Cupcake Truck, prove that’s not the case. The Springs Cupcake Truck is known to sell out within a couple hours of parking somewhere in town, and The Cupcake Doctor’s creative cupcake concoctions keep customers coming back for more. My favorites treats to soothe my sweet tooth? The doctor prescribed me carrot cake and lemon, and they were the cure!
Colorado Mountain Brewery: More than a beer stop
Colorado Mountain Brewery may be known for it’s house brews on tap, but the real stars of the restaurant are some of the side and dessert courses. The brussel sprouts are tender and flavorful, the bread pudding is gooey and sweet and most menu items in general are consistently very good. It’s a great casual option whether you’re on the north or south side of town, since there are two locations in the Springs.
Mead St. Station in Denver Switches Up What’s Between the Bread
Several weeks ago I spent the afternoon on 32nd Avenue in Denver and met up with my friend Kristen for some girl talk and lunch. We decided to grab a bite to eat at Mead St. Station because of the extensive sandwich menu and reasonable drink prices. Their Pear Melt with brie and havarti cheeses – which I consider to be an adult grilled cheese – was the right mix of toasty, fruity and melty.
Alchemy serves up unique drinks and food with a twist
Last week the Colorado Springs Young Professionals hosted an event at Alchemy, a pub in Old Colorado City. I hadn’t been to this restaurant yet so I went and let the waitress help me pick something to eat. At her suggestion, I ordered the sweet potato nachos and they were awesome.
Festival of Lights: Grab a snack downtown to warm up after the parade
The Festival of Lights in downtown Colorado Springs is one of my favorite events of the year. Typically it’s freezing and crowded, so having a game plan of where to grab a snack and hot drink to warm up afterward is always a good idea. Tejon Street and the entire downtown area has some great restaurants and breweries to check out once the parade has ended.
Wine and food pairing at The Sweet Elephant
After receiving an email for a wine and food pairing from The Sweet Elephant I figured it was worth giving the cute corner shop in Old Colorado City a call for more details. When the associate on the phone explained that it was free with the purchase of a glass of wine I was sold. The dinner featured food prepared by a local chef and wines from Ten Bears Winery.
Meadow Muffins reopens as Mother Muff’s
Meadow Muffins may have closed a few months ago, but the former westside restaurant and bar has now reopened as Mother Muff’s. It opens for breakfast, serves a full-menu all day and has an extensive drink menu. Although I miss Meadow Muffins, I think this new restaurant is just what was needed in Old Colorado City.
OCC has a hidden wine bar and it’s awesome.
When I began walking upstairs into what looked like it could be someone’s apartment, I was a bit skeptical of the supposed wine bar my mom had suggested. Once we got all the way to the top of the stairs though, all hesitation was replaced with sheer excitement in finding such a hidden gem in Old Colorado City.
Searching for the spiciest Spicy Chai
When it comes to anything chai, I don’t mess around. Almost every coffee shop offers chai in a variety of forms but he perfect cup is spicy enough that your throat tingles for a few seconds afterward, but still calm enough that you want to drink a second. Jives Coffee Lounge is my favorite spot to grab a tea and cozy up for a few hours.
